Born in Pennsylvania’s capital city, Harrisburg, as Joseph Rashid Williams, Cadence, had his first rap written by his oldest brother at the age of 6. Going by J-Money at that time, he was inspired by artists such as 2pac, 50 Cent and Aaliyah and began to study the two influential rappers’ lyrics and Aaliyah’s cadences over the next 6 years. He wouldn’t write his own lyrics until the age of 12. The rest is history.
Cadence found his groove barricaded in his room for hours after school, rapping over his brother’s instrumental CD, filling notebooks with lyrics about his ache to be loved by the streets and respected by his family who greatly doubted he’d even see 21 because of his reckless behavior in school and at home. Although troublesome, Cadence always knew he was different, and he would soon find his place in the world as an activist and this found his place in music.
After a few years of fitting in with the gangsta rap scene, an odd, but life-altering encounter with God made Cadence finally began speaking a different truth. A truth he had known all along but tried to ignore for the pleasures of this world. That truth is : JESUS SAVES.
With his surprisingly well-constructed bars, real & relatable content, and punchlines weaved so seamlessly in his lyrics you might miss them, Cadence has surely the many J. Cole and Nas comparisons by his fans. According to hip-hop’s newest anomaly, he’s “just getting started.”
