Joya (@sheisjoya) is an independent artist, singer, and songwriter born and raised in Hong Kong. Known for her heart-on-sleeve poetic pop, she writes songs that sit in the in-between — the almosts, the quiet endings, and the questions we don’t always say out loud. The kind of things that come up in therapy, which is probably why performing live often feels like a group session, except she’s the one on the mic, oversharing.
She began sharing music from her apartment during the pandemic — including her sarcastic “apocalypse song” — and went on to release her debut EP She is Joya in 2023. Her music has since been featured in SCMP, Tatler, Mixmag Asia, TimeOut, MTV Asia, and more. She’s performed at her own sold out headline shows at Soho House, hosted a Today at Apple, Music Matters Festival (Singapore), Gay Games as the closing act, Club Bbang, PhoenixFest, and more - slowly but surely bringing a growing, passionate community with her wherever she plays.
Joya is openly queer, part of the LGBTQ+ community, and also a Google Women Techmakers ambassador and SVP of Product at a tech company by day.
