JP DEN TEX

JP DEN TEX (from Amsterdam, Holland) is a renowned Dutch singer/songwriter, blending Rock and Americana with European influences such as French chanson. JP’s first notable musical adventure was in the mid 70’s as a member of "Tortilla", a legendary Dutch band whose music would now be described as alt.country. Later, in the 80’s, Den Tex recorded some critically acclaimed pop albums, under the banner of "JP & Private Life". In 1998 he went back to his rootsy origins with a soulful break-up album, ”Emotional Nomads”. “Painstakingly honest, that’s how I’d like to be” he wrote in the CD booklet.

After the turn of the century Den Tex began focusing on storytelling, reviving the old seventies idea of the ‘concept album’. “American Tune” (2009, also released in the US & UK) was later adapted to the stage and became a successful theater production. On his latest album “The Starlight Adventure” (2022) JP stuck to his own continent: the song cycle tells the tale of a romantic love story, set around a European vaudeville company at the beginning of the nineties.

His - by now impressive - singer-songwriter oeuvre reflects the continuous process of ‘realigning with the soul’, as it proceeds through the various stages of life.
