Propably the biggest single musical influence on the production of the first EP is the Grammy nominated US band Brazilian Girls, with whom co-producer Matt Brandau played. Their style is based on improvisation and kaleidoscopic sounds.
Most of the lyrics on the EP ”ikigai” are entirely improvised. Some songs were written in English, but the album's other co-producer Sinclair wanted judvelia to sing in her native language, Finnish. Driven by 1990s echoes and Matt Brandau's strong bass lines, ikigai is a humorous but honest journey into judvelia's soul.
Drummers on ikigai songs include Robby Sinclair (Chet Faker, Natasha Bedingfield, Alina Baraz, Chris Baio) and Emmy awarded Stephen Levitin aka AppleJuiceKid.
The songs are all individual pieces that tie and support each other to create a delicate but strong entity.
