Julean Rai is the founder of the indie-folk band Julean and the Rai with a career spanning nearly 30 years.
The band -- previously known as AXIS, Julian Rai, and Avallon Rai -- has transformed many times and was a part of music scenes in cities across the US, Mexico, and Europe.
Founded in Dayton, Ohio in 1995, the band then moved to Colorado, Austin, Tucson, and New York City where they became part of the "Anti-folk" scene and established themselves as a standout act, alongside other NYC antifolk acts like <a href="spotify:artist:2SVw939fwuqSobLjF8u78b" data-name="Gogol Bordello">Gogol Bordello</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:3z6Gk257P9jNcZbBXJNX5i" data-name="Regina Spektor">Regina Spektor</a>. In 2008, the band went to Europe and were a huge success in Poland.
They returned to the US, living and performing in San Francisco, Tijuana, and San Diego before relocating to the music scene in Denver, Colorado.
