UK/Yorkshire born multi-instrumentalist Jules Brennan has been creating original funk, jazz and psychedelic soundscapes for most of his life, cutting his teeth in the fertile ground of the acid jazz and hip-hop scene of 1990s Nottingham.
He then took a left turn and planted himself in Kyoto, Japan, where he has lived for 20 years. This eastern influence and his obsessive jazz vinyl collecting has inevitably filtered into his productions and lately his kaleidoscopic, Japanese-flavoured instrumental grooves have been finding their way onto the airwaves, winning support from some of the leading tastemakers of the global underground.
His single ‘Jongara Zeus’ has recently been released on a vinyl 45 through the UK’s Expansion records & has certainly made a distinctive mark.
He has just finished working on his album of Japanese tinged grooves ‘Wamono’ and regularly gets airplay around the world being a frequent musical contributor to Totally Wired Radio and Worldwide FM & has guested on Gilles Peterson’s satellite show Kyoto’s WWFM with Shuya Okino from Kyoto Jazz Massive. "
“The keyboard gymnast & multi-instrumentalist with his unique koto stylings is now in danger of creating his very own genre. Variously known as 'sushi fusion', or 'oriental spy-funk’, Jules' funky-jazz breakbeats, groovy basslines, and quirky guitar riffs create organically flowing sound collages that really take you on that journey through the worldwide sound where west truly does go east”
