Jules Matton is a French composer and a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and Dance in New York, where he was recognized by John Corigliano for his “remarkable talent and impeccable technique.” He is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet Foundation Prize for Vocation (2010), the Excellence Scholarship from the Institut Catholique de Paris—where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 2013—and a scholarship from the Banque Populaire Foundation (2015). In 2019, he was awarded the Grand Prix Lycéen des Compositeurs, following the Audience Prize at the Île-de-Créations competition in 2017.
Jules Matton has collaborated with a wide range of acclaimed musicians such as Jodie Devos, Bruno Philippe, Thomas Dunford, Anastasia Kobekina, Frank Braley, Paul Meyer, and ensembles including the Chapelle Harmonique, the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, and the Orchestre national de Lyon. In 2017, he was appointed composer-in-residence at the Théâtre impérial de Compiègne, where his first opera, The Odyssey, premiered in 2018.
He released his first chamber music album with the Fondamenta label, featuring Jeanne Crousaud, Guillaume Vincent, Yan Levionnois, Pierre Génisson, and the Debussy Quartet. He subsequently served as composer-in-residence at the Festival of Auvers-sur-Oise (Opus 39) in 2019 and with the Orchestre de Picardie from 2020 to 2021. His works are published by Éditions Billaudot.
