French indie-rocker and self-taught multi-instrumentalist Julie Peel writes smart well-crafted folk-rock with a pop sensibility reminiscent of Aimee Mann, Cat Power, and Neil Young. Born in Cannes, Julie was raised between France and Canada, and sings entirely in English on this album. Julie recorded, mixed, and produced Near The Sun on her own, and plays most of the instruments as well, though she is joined on drums by Andreas Dahlbäck (drummer & producer for Anna Ternheim).
"Listened to Julie Peel and was blown away; I had not heard of her before, which is something I love about this job. Count on a 2010 showcase invitation!" - Craig Stewart (SXSW Showcase Mgr.)
"Simultaneously rich and sweet… Julie Peel is a talented, multi-skilled artist with a finely tuned sense of melancholic bliss." - Wears The Trousers
