When I was a kid, when everyone else was listening to the Beastie Boys and Millie Vanilli, I was tuning in to Bruce Springsteen and Steve Winwood. We had a baby grand piano and from the time I was 7 until I was 17 that piano was my therapist. I bought the sheet music for Bruce Springsteen, Journey, and Richard Marx. I toured with them a thousand times in my imagination. And in between performances I worked on my own melodies.
I picked up the guitar when I was 13 and started to gravitate towards progressive music, especially Pink Floyd/David Gilmour.
For several years now I have been marinating in the music of Peter Gabriel. In May '25 I was blessed to live a dream come true in travelling to his Real World Studios in Box, Wiltshire, England and recording music. The song "Calling Carolina" is a product of this experience.
My songs are reflections of these and a thousand other artists, and yet they are unique expressions of my life. The piano, the guitar... these are my therapists. I lose myself in the music and then I am released from all of the anxieties and vanities of today. Maybe these songs will help you do the same.
Much love, Justin
