Kai Shade, also known widely as KAI ANDREWS, is a Rapper, Singer, Songwriter and Producer hailing from Diepkloof/Diepmeadow, South Africa. Kai grew up in a Jazz and R&B oriented household played by his mother and father. He later found Hip-Hop after being exposed to the likes of T.I, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G and Tupac (He credits his mom for exposing him to hip hop after she played him Paper Trail by T.I). He taught himself how to rap along to songs at only 7 years old, and would rap these songs in front of his classmates in primary. At age 11 he practiced songwriting.
Kai would start making his own beats at age 14 after rummaging through files, finding the demo version of FL Studio 10 on his fathers computer. He practiced making beats and songwriting for 2 years before purchasing equipment for a home studio. At age 16, 2017, he recorded and produced his first mixtape, releasing it on Audiomack. The mixtape was heard amongst friends in high school and primary school who now knew that he was on a mission to get his name out there. After sharpening his skills, the quality of his music got better, and today he has released 58 songs individually, (not including production credits and features).
His music style is Progressive, and isn't conventional to the Hip Hop sound in South Africa because of the music he was exposed to. He is influenced by Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator, Mac Miller, J Cole and Westside Gunn.
