Actress, musician, and model Kaila Yu was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States when she was a toddler. She took a number of classes in music, dance, and Chinese language and culture as a child and entered the University of California, San Diego, originally intending to major in biology. Though she eventually transferred to UCLA and graduated with a degree in economics, her real reason behind the move to Los Angeles was a desire to pursue modeling, acting, and singing. She quickly achieved all three goals, modeling on the Internet and releasing an album, Kaila, in 2003. Three years later, she would appear in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Her growing popularity (thanks in part to her MySpace page) led to articles in Rolling Stone and Stuff Magazine, and in 2007 she co-founded Nylon Pink with the designer/stylist Kitt.E.Katt. ~ Katherine Fulton, Rovi
