Komzak learned the violin from his father and studied with Mildner and Bennewitz at the Conservatory in Prague. He became a theatre conductor in Linz and the band leader for the military in Innsbruck. Komzak also conducted the provincial Liedertafel there but did not remain in any single place for a long period. Those stays that were at all extensive included Vienna and Baden. He was able to conduct one of the bands at the World Exhibition in St. Louis in 1904. Notably he brought Czech folk-elements into his band arrangements. He composed an operetta, "Edelweiss," songs, and numerous dances -- waltzes, polkas and marches. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
