Katana was a rock band from Caracas, Venezuela who were active between 2008 and 2012. The group, consisting of Alejo Santiago (Vocals, guitar), Miguelángel Vásquez (Guitar and synthesizers), Ricardo Tabares (Bass) and Constantin Teruel (Drums), performed at the main rock festivals of the country as well as nightclubs, private events, and other well-known venues, capturing a loyal following. In 2010, Katana went into the studio to record their first single called "Paraíso", which aired on the major Venezuelan radio stations for several months, helping to boost their popularity among teenage audiences. In 2011, they decided to record an EP, containing five of the songs from their live show, independently and with few resources. The material had a release date set for the end of that year. However, the humanitarian crisis that is currently affecting Venezuela took them by surprise when they had to establish themselves in different countries (The U.S., Spain, and Argentina). Ultimately, this postponed the release of the material while they were trying to work despite the distance between them. In 2012 the band announced they had officially split and the EP was never released.
In 2017, the band decided to put out the material via the independent label La Nueva Lengua and announced that they would finally publish the EP after six years.
Miguelángel Vásquez recently released his debut album under the moniker Herodes which has gathered great reviews among the Venezuelan press.
