Though only 19 years old, Katie Kraus has attracted listeners from around the globe with her new album Over the Hills. Inspired by a school project to write and produce songs, Katie took the challenge to a new level, incorporating her personal experiences with the talent of other musicians to create something one of a kind. “Over the Hills is an album about growth and being okay with letting your past self go because you have been made new” she says.
It’s clear her school days inspired a large portion of the album, although that can’t be said for all 11 songs on the record. The witty Jack and Rose brings wonderful elements of well-known literary masterpieces into the realm of music, while the upbeat Love Letters Only serves as a call to action. The album’s title track and climax Over the Hills is the perfect resolution to a body of work about overcoming obstacles. Kraus sings “I took the rocks you flung and painted them with rays of sun” as she steps out of the realm of drama and gossip and into the world where one true God reigns King.
From love letter confessions, to stories of wasted time, and finding victory in persevering growth, this is Over the Hills.
