Katie Rosewood is an alternative classical guitarist and singer based in Sydney, Australia. Her work gives a bold and vulnerable perspective on the darker experiences we share.
Her debut album Symptoms (2024), is her most personal work to date. Melding classical guitar with heavy rock undertones, twelve tracks take an introspective look at the human condition.
Off the back of hard-hitting singles Machine Thinking and The Scary Thing, Symptoms dives further into daring self-reflection. The Preacher looks at the dark path of obsession through the lens of dream-like nostalgia, while the intense push-pull of Bird Bones captures the anxiety of being stuck on the edge of a breakdown.
Despite always being a rock music obsessive, Katie became drawn to the intricate techniques of classical guitar. She trained at the prestigious Sydney Conservatorium, where she studied under Australia’s foremost classical players. Towards the end of her studies, she became inspired by the raw style of 90s alt-rock legends Tori Amos and PJ Harvey. In their footsteps, her solo project resists the rules of genre and convention to discover an authentic sound.
'Symptoms' (released August 2024) follows Katie’s EP 'Seeds', with tracks played on ABC Radio Sydney, 2SER and 4ZZZ. Katie has appeared at venues such as Butchers Brew, Moshpit and Petersham Bowling Club with her band Marcos Gil (Danny John Trio), James White (SNAPE) and Simon Dawes (Anti Guitar Trio, Darling Vicious).
