Kato Change is a Kenyan guitarist, producer, and sonic innovator whose radiant stage presence and inimitable improvisational flair have made him one of East Africa’s standout contemporary musicians. A major highlight of his career is his role as a credited producer on Luedji Luna’s 2025 Latin GRAMMY– winning album Um Mar pra Cada Um, one of the year’s most celebrated MPB releases. His earlier production work on Luedji Luna’s Bom Mesmo É Estar Debaixo d’Água also earned a 2021 Latin GRAMMY nomination.
Kato’s style blends African musical traditions with Jazz, Blues, and electronic influences, crafting a sound that feels both familiar and entirely his own. His debut album, The Change Experience, showcases his collaborative ethos, while his Afro- house EP Sazile (with DJ Suraj and Winyo) expands his reach into dance and electronic territories.
On stage, Kato has performed at major international events, including Rock in Rio 2024 and the 2021 Latin GRAMMYs in Las
Vegas. He is an alumnus of globally recognized
artist residencies such as OneBeat (USA), Sacatar (Brazil), and Music Omi(NYC,USA). Kato has served as lead guitarist and bandleader for Tusker Project Fame and five seasons of Coke Studio Africa, performing alongside artists including Salif Keita, Seun Kuti, Aloe Blacc, King Sunny Adé, Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Yemi Alade, Jason Derulo, Fally Ipupa, and Burna Boy.
