Kato Change

Kato is a guitarist/ producer whose technique was nurtured by an emerging community of musicians online. His self-directed style draws from a heritage of African music as well as Blues , Hiphop, House and Jazz. In 2012, He was a Fellow in the U.S Department of State's One beat program. In December 2015, Kato released his debut album, The Change Experience; a collaborative journey, with each artist sharing a unique perspective on creating music. In September 2016, he was one of fifteen musicians, composers and performers from around the globe to come together at OMI, a unique collaborative music making residency program in New York. In January 2017, he was selected as one of 6 creative individuals from all nations, working in all disciplines, in order to promote increased intercultural understanding and global interconnectedness at Sacatar in Brazil. In 2018/2019, Kato recorded with Luedji Luna and went on to do a sold out tour in Brazil and around Europe. In 2019, He was one of the headline acts at the Safaricom International Jazz Festival, sharing the stage with Dianne Reeves and Marcus Miller. He has been the Lead guitarist in African projects; Tusker Project Fame and Coke Studio Africa, where he played and recorded with Salif Keita, Seun Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Neyo, Trey Songz, Aloe Blacc, Yemi Alade, Jason Derulo among others. Kato plays regularly alongside his ensemble and several other groups in Nairobi.
