KATONTHEMUV is an Afro-Caribbean LatinX urban rapper and songwriter. She was born and raised in La Romana, a city in the Dominican Republic until she relocated to Miami, FLorida at age 9. While in Miami, Kat became more connected to her Afro-Latinx roots, influenced by Celia Cruz, Marc Anthony, Old school bachata classics and the early 2000’s Hip-Hop scene in the 305 Dade County. Home to Rick Ross, Ace hood and Pitbull just to name a few.
In early 2013, Kat decided to relocate to Atlanta, which is rich in music history and is also the Trap Music Capitol. There she gained a deep connection to HIP-HOP culture while studying some of her crafty influencers like Outkast, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, 2 chainz, Chris Brown, and more. She would frequently go to a few dance studios to pick up on dance techniques which is one of her passions, before fully committing to writing spoken words and making music. In 2017, Kat linked up with Mississippi born Producer/Audio Engineer PourItUp Sip, and began recording and honing in on her craft while releasing the hit singles “Isla” and “Deskontrol” and her Self-titled EP KATONTHEMUV.
The name KATONTHEMUV was created to signify Kat’s passion for traveling, always staying on the move, accomplishing goals, and making it happen. KATONTHEMUV delivers catchy rhymes mixed with melodic rawness while infusing the soulful trap sound from the sidestreets of the Sip with the Tropical Afro-Caribbean, Dance Hall sounds of Reggaeton, and Afro-Pop.
