Keekai is the musical summation of Roberto Sy's identity as a queer Filipinx singer and songwriter. It is the synthesis of fearless expression and energy, as well as heartbreak and acceptance. Keekai pairs vocal layers inspired by powerhouse R&B Idols with shimmering synths and beaming pads reminiscent of Manila’s disco scene and Japanese city-pop. In doing so, Keekai weaves a vocally emotive sound with a physical pulse and thump. Lyrically, Keekai captures scenes of honesty and intimacy both in relationships and in queerness. Topics of in-betweenness and unspoken woes trickle through his songs, revealing a complex but tender individual.
