Keiran T Merrick makes vintage music for the modern era.

When he was seven, Keiran’s dad bought him his first guitar. Three days later he returned home from school to tell his dad that he’d be performing in a school assembly. His dad looked shocked. Keiran had not yet learned to play a single note. His dad could either tell the school that Keiran was not ready to perform or teach the boy a tune. Being the eternal optimist that he is, he showed Keiran a twelve-bar-blues. Luckily, the boy picked it up pretty quick. That song was the first of many that Keiran’s dad taught him over the years, as he instilled in him a deep appreciation for music.

Later, as a teenager, Keiran became obsessed with DJing and sampling. It was during this time that he began to dig through his parent’s record collection. Surrounded by yellowing record sleeves, he fell in love with the golden era sounds of the 50s, 60s and 70s.

In adulthood he honed his skills as a songwriter and composer, writing for film, theatre and television. Though he was writing full-time, he was reticent about releasing music of his own. It was only in the summer of 2020, when he was asked to contribute to a charity album, that he decided to release a song he had written for his partner Liza. That song was called ‘May The Flame Burn On’ and became the basis of his debut album ‘Songs For Liza’. A homage to the records he found in his parent’s attic as a teenager, ‘Songs for Liza’ is a labour of love in every respect.
