Derry based artist Kelan Galligan combines smooth, finger picked guitar, delicate piano, lilting vocals and swirling string arrangements to create exceptional, modern alt-folk songs. Pleasantly poetic lyrics complete a sound that is both interesting and engaging.
Having been brought up on a musical diet of Dylan, Young and Prine among others, he first picked up a guitar in his early teens and has been writing consistently ever since. Galligan contacted local artist and producer Eoin O’Callaghan in 2016 with a view to having his songs professionally produced. Galligan’s first single ‘Brightens Me’ received its first airplay on Electric Mainline with Stephen McCauley in 2018. Since then, Galligan has been continually supported by Stephen McCauley and Cian O’Ciobhain (RTEnaG) and has had airplay on BBC Ulster’s ‘Across The Line’ show.
He is currently developing his sound as has been working on incorporating Roland 808/909/CR78 drum machine sounds into his live act, as well as utilising the likes of the Eventide H9 guitar effects pedal. As Galligan stated, “The aim is to give the audience something that excites and intrigues; something that breaks the mould a bit but is genuinely interesting to listen to.”
Galligan’s fifth single ‘Shadows’ was released on the 15th May and it’s an atmospheric, beautifully produced homage to isolation and losing track of time.
