In 2013, Australian singer and songwriter Kelly Dance moved to Hong Kong and set up a music studio on Wai Yip Street called “the Yips”. After living and working in the city for a period, she then embarked on a life-changing trip, to perform in 15 cities across South, Central and Northern China over the course of 2015 and 2016, with her Chinese sci-fi inspired album Wild Grass an exploration of living, loving and coming of age in modern China.
A move to Boston, USA followed, with Dance continuing to shape and develop the demos she had begun in Hong Kong. That studio, and the street on it which it resided, would continue to influence the songs-in-progress, living on in the name of the new album The Yips, due out in December 2021.
