Kelvin D’Artegnan (last name Taylor) was born in Warner Robins, Georgia, and grew up in Prattville, Alabama. Several members of his extended family are musically inclined. D’Artegnan’s step father worked as a DJ in the Miami club scene in the 80s and 90s. His father and step father played old school hip hop records and tapes in the house, heavily influencing D'artagnan's growing musical sensibility. D’Artegnan began to rap and freestyle in middle school, but it wasn’t until high school that he started battle rapping and taking music seriously. He later went on to study music at Wallace State Community College where he honed his skills in production and arrangement. D’Artegnan cites Biggie, Ma$e, Jay-Z, Cam’ron, Busta Rhymes, Eminem, Young Dro, T.I., Ludacris, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Kanye West, Just Blaze, and Swizz Beatz as his greatest inspirations, but also aspires to rise to their same level of musical and lyrical prowess. D’Artegnan is a multi-talented musician, as he writes, composes, and records his own music. D’artegnan is doing the hard work: pushing back against commercial pressure, preserving artistic integrity, and telling stories that matter. If you’re someone who values hip-hop as more than entertainment but as education, expression, and resistance, his music is more than worth your time.
