The Ken Oak Band burst onto the scene in 2005 with Symposium, a stripped-down debut anchored by Oak’s cello alongside the twin guitars of Chris Ramos and Ed Gorski. Primarily written by Oak and Ramos, the album blended folk intimacy with cinematic sweep. The standout track “Inda” propelled the band to national attention through the DreamWorks film She’s the Man and its soundtrack, introducing their cello-driven sound to a wider audience.
After Ramos departed, Oak and Gorski carried the project forward as a duo, co-writing all subsequent material. Their sophomore album, Vienna to Venice (2006), produced by veteran rock producer Duane Baron (Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe), marked a bold evolution in sound, with Oak and Gorski’s writing deepening the melodies and emotional core. The single “Summer’s Kiss” earned a spot on CSI: NY, proving the duo’s music resonated far beyond small venues.
