Kenny Shore has been writing songs like “Put Yourself in My Shoes” all his life. The North
Carolina native grew up singing in church and started playing drums when he was 5-years-old.
By high school he had dropped the drumsticks and picked up a guitar and started writing
songs. “I had written over 100 songs by the time I went to college,” Shore laughs. He put together a group called The Dayroom Monitors in the early 1980s that gained attention in the Chapel Hill, North Carolina, music scene. Shore garnered local attention in 2003 when he wrote a comic
tale about his and his daughter’s pursuit of American Idol star, and local Raleigh celebrity, Clay
Aiken, after the city’s holiday parade. His song, “Chasing Clay,” suddenly flowed over the
airwaves at the local Raleigh radio station WRAL, and Aiken’s fans and listeners from around
the country started requesting the song. Over the past two years, Shore has focused on making an
album of new songs, and he’s pulled in veteran producer Jerry Brown and a whole host of
musicians. “I was planning on doing a handful of songs and maybe putting out an EP,” says
Shore, “but every time I came in the studio I’d have a new song, and Jerry would love it and say
we have to keep it.” The new album, which will release later this year, includes the new single
“Put Yourself in My Shoes.”
