The music of Irish indie-folk musician Kevin Herm Connolly has taken on a Latin and Mediterranean tinge of late , due to the time he has spent living in South America and, more recently, Spain. In fact, the title of new single "Chango" is a word used in Latin America, to refer to a monkey, a shopping trolley, a child, a party, among other things...
"I originally came across the word in a song by the French/Spanish artist <a href="spotify:artist:6wH6iStAh4KIaWfuhf0NYM" data-name="Manu Chao">Manu Chao</a> ("Papito") . For some reason, playing this guitar riff, the word kept coming to mind. From there, it was one of those songs that fell together effortlessly. I recorded it quickly, on a beautiful Gretsch guitar in Satelite Studios in Oviedo, Spain. I played through a couple of takes, without a click track and without much polishing afterwards. We didn't add much, just some sprinklings of bass guitar, banjo, Hammond organ and tambourine. I wanted to ensure it maintained a raw, loose vibe, a la artists like <a href="spotify:artist:4FZ3j1oH43e7cukCALsCwf" data-name="Jack White">Jack White</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7x83XhcMbOTl1UdYsPTuZM" data-name="Tom Waits">Tom Waits</a>. I think we got there!"
