KEWL HAZE

Philadelphia based Psych-Pop Duo, Kewl Haze started as a long-distance project between childhood friends Dan Scott Forreal and Derek Sheehan in 2020. During the pandemic each took a step back from their respective projects - Sheehan was the visionary behind the critically-acclaimed, Philly/Brooklyn-based dream-pop band, Weekender, signed to ultra-hip indie label, PaperCup Music. Forreal fronted Colorado psych-funk outfit Miscomunicado, sharing bills with G. Love & Special Sauce, Dopapod, and The Werks, while separately spending a stint drumming for then-hip-hop artist Mod Sun. The pair started trading demos while Forreal was living in LA and Sheehan in Philly. Upon realizing they had a project worth pursuing, Forreal moved back to Philly in 2021 and the band was born.
Kewl Haze’s clandestine chemists Forreal and Sheehan—both accomplished multi-instrumentalists, producers, singers, songwriters, and mix-engineers—toiled away in both their home studios and professional studios carefully perfecting their 11-song album. In all its modern psych-pop grandeur, their debut LP “Suburban Sherpa” is sure to delight disciples of artists like Tame Impala, MGMT, The Flaming Lips or any fans of dance-y, miasmic, genre-jumping psych-rock alike. Enlisting the help of Matt Barrick (The Walkmen, Jonathan Fire Eater) to finalize the record at his studio Silent Partner Recordings, the album culminated in a truly one-of-a-kind sound that somehow manages to feel new yet familiar at the same time.
