KhanЪ fuses Bulgarian folklore and modern metal into explosive live shows in the self-proclaimed style of “folkcore”.
The band traces it’s humble beginnings to а garage in Sofia around 2009 when high-school friends set out to use
folklore instruments like tambura and gaida in metal context, like the Western European folk metal bands, but
featuring the characteristic odd-time signatures, phrasing and tonality of the Balkan folklore.
Throughout the years numerous lineup changes have influenced the artistic directions of the band, but the core essence
of sticking to heavy riffs interlaced with intricate melodies and epic choruses has remained. The lyrical themes range
from the hardships of living in a post-Communist society, folk style fairy tales to historic epics.
The band has build a loyal fanbase in it’s homecountry and has opened up for acts like Arkona, Enter Shikari
and Balkandji.
