Kid Atomic

A post grad solo project, frontperson Ruben Garza began performing under the pseudonym Kid Atomic in 2016 in San Marcos, Texas. The name Kid Atomic grew out of an idea of attempting to maintain childlike optimism and hope throughout catastrophic and tumultuous times.

In 2018 Kid Atomic grew into a three piece band based in Austin, Texas. 2020 ran things to a halt for the band and Ruben at the time began to shift their attention to learn recording and mixing with their brother Nick Garza. They recorded several demos and started to learn how to figure out how to make things on their own. During this time their first single Dollhouse was released.

Everything in life had come to a stop in Austin and much of the music making was only really happening whenever Nick would come up and visit. Ruben moved back home to McAllen, Texas in 2022 and began teaching Nick the Kid Atomic songs on bass. Later their cousin Jose Homero Tijerina would later join in on drums in 2023 creating the third full band iteration of Kid Atomic and they began to gig in South Texas.

Kid Atomic songs at their heart musically blend math rock and shoegaze elements and pit them against each other in dissonant through-composed songs. Slowcore and post punk influences harmonically and rhythmically drive their music juxtaposing walls of sound and tight guitar tapping and mathy fingerpicking. Their music wants to connect through contrast and build a story in the structure.
