: the study of the way in which certain body movements and gestures serve as a form of communication
A rock group based in Denver, Kinesics is inspired by Manchester Orchestra, Lucy Dacus, and the spirit of Saddle Creek, apparent in their impactful lyrics with almost too many words packed into each line and spacey instrumentation. The songwriting in this project primarily functions as a processing mechanism for everyday communication and interaction, and has experienced growth from a solo project, to a duo, to a dynamic and cohesive four-piece.
Their debut album, titled Surfacing, was released on June 22nd, 2018. "We hear Surfacing as a slick, female version of Pedro The Lion’s Achilles Heel with the instrumentalists’ identities shining brightly. “Back To You” is arguably the hookiest melancholy melody in this collection of totally hook-y melancholy melodies. Everitt’s frank pleas ground the band’s rhythmic ambition in an earthy, calm flow, turning our ear with each chilling lilt." -Kevin Johnston, BandWagon Magazine
