Kinky Friedman's final record, ‘Poet of Motel 6’ is a moving collection of ten songs about love and loss. Kinky plumbs the depths of love and mortality on his final album. Joined by Texas royalty like Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Rick Trevino, Amy Nelson, Rodney Crowell, and produced by fellow Rolling Thunder Revue alumni David Mansfield, this record truly lays bare the heart of this Texas bard. Poet of Motel 6 marks the final chapter in Kinky Friedman’s extraordinary musical journey. Fans and newcomers alike will discover an album that is as unforgettable as the man who created it.

Kinky Friedman was a legendary Texas singer-songwriter, beloved for both his satirical and politically incorrect songs, as well as his more moving, haunted material like “Sold American.” He began writing a string of successful detective novels in the 1980s, and famously threw his ten-gallon into the political arena with a colorful run for Governor of Texas in 2006. Beyond the limelight, Kinky’s heart shined brightest at his family’s summer camp, Echo Hill, which hosts the children of Gold Star families. He also dedicated his efforts to animal rescue, giving countless furry souls a second chance.
