Raised in a Christian household to Ghanaian parents, Kobla (a name given to Tuesday-borns in his native tounge, Ewe), cites Gospel, Afrobeat and Jazz as fundamental influences to his style.
Since graduating from university in 2016, Kobla’s pursuits in both engineering and music have taken him across the UK; meeting and connecting with musicians and artists from various backgrounds and influences.
The global Covid-19 pandemic presented numerous challenges but also unique opportunities. With live shows coming to a halt, Kobla spent much more of his free time practicing and developing new skills – one of them being music production. ‘Launch’, the debut single from Kobla the Expression as well as the much anticipated follow-up 'Kanda', are embodiments of this time period.
