Kosmos in Polish means the outer space with all its elements. However, it is also a name for a jazz quintet from Łódź, Poland, which was founded in 2020 by pianist Stanisław Szmigiero, trumpeter Jan Ostalski and saxophonist Iwo Tylman and got its final shape two years later after welcoming double-bassist Kamil Guźniczak and drummer Kacper Kuta.
Their compositions are influenced by Polish yass bands, electronic music and hip-hop. Kosmos music is a mix of lyricism, space, intensity and elements of experiment.
Every member of Kosmos might be called an eccentric person with very different musical expression - they could be even perceived as a group of odd people. Still, every member complements each other on stage, creating consistent vision of how they see the world surrounding them.
The band was recognized as one of the most promising jazz collectives in Poland by winning the competition ’’Generacja Jazz” organized by ’’U Know Me Records’’ label. Kosmos debuted in June 2023 with a single titled ’’JA’’.
