Originally from New Jersey, k.summerlynn’s (born Katherine Summerlynn Powell) childhood was filled with music. This was due in part to her mother – a classically trained, jazz pianist who spent time touring across the US with the Grammy Award-winning group, The Delfonics and in Asia with various vocalists. Between piano and guitar lessons, learning to play the upright bass in school and teaching herself several other instruments, music came naturally for k.summerlynn and she remembers filling notebooks with songs in elementary school. She also remembers having an infatuation with understanding “the story behind the song” and partially attributes her love for songwriting to this childhood obsession.

In high school, she began recording her music in studios in New Jersey. After graduating from Howard University in Washington, D.C., k.summerlynn moved to Los Angeles, CA to continue pursuing her passion for songwriting.

Released in February of 2022, k.summerlynn's first EP, "me + my homegirls" is a sweet & spicy musical collection of real-life relationship encounters of 20-something women. The project, written entirely by k.summerlynn, blends hip-hop and pop feels with a 90’s R&B undertone to deliver a 5-song experience.
