Kubilay Kaya is an alchemist blending hip-hop with classic synths, dreamy samples, and poetic lyrics. His sound is warm, infused with analog influences from the soulful sixties, disco, and the shimmering eighties. As a producer, he spent years crafting beats for well-known Dutch rappers. In recent years, he has stepped into the spotlight as a solo artist.
Kubilay moves between different worlds. Born and raised in the Netherlands by Turkish parents, he navigates through cultures, perspectives, and identities. His journey of self-discovery extends beyond his own eyes and past. As the father of two daughters with Dutch mothers, he often wonders how they experience the world. And how do you guide them through a society that still prefers to see things in black and white?
After his first two conceptual albums about love—Wanneer je er langer naar luistert, wordt het best mooi and Slecht alleen—Kubilay wrote his most personal work yet: Daarnaartoe. A Dutch-Turkish soundscape that reflects a world both confusing and beautiful—one in which he has finally found his place.
The album also echoes the societal pressures we face daily: the relentless pursuit of the best version of ourselves, driven by the fear of being forgotten. It explores themes of consumerism, the distractions of social media, and the metaverse, where the line between reality and illusion continues to blur. Daarnaartoe will be available everywhere in the summer of 2025 and on vinyl.
