Kumala

Kumala are Imi Smith, Alex Howis, Sam Frost, John Bergin and Will Edwards. Formed in the summer of 2020, this London-based group, released their debut EP ‘In Colour’ in 2022.

Having spent a number of years in a previous band together, the boys struck gold when a chance introduction to Imi gave them the final piece of the puzzle and her enigmatic, alternative RnB influenced vocals allowed them to fully realise their vision for the project. With a shared eclectic taste within the group, they fuse a whole host of genres from garage and house breaks and beats, to the ambient melodies of trip hop and even delving into their old indie sensibilities on the guitar and bass.

Kumala have been regulars on the London circuit since the release of “In Colour”, with an ever-growing fanbase. February 2024 saw the release of their debut album 'Pieces Of You', which showcased a moodier, more accomplished sound and garnered the attention of BBC Introducing who broadcast 'Get Close', 'Shy Girl', 'I Know There's Something' and made 'Crossfire' their record of the week.
