Kumsa is a Berlin-based alternative electronic duo whose music flows from the lands of the far north. Formed by a husband and wife – she from the twilight grandeur of Saint Petersburg, he from the wilds of Karelian forests – their name is a tribute to the Kumsa river, a winding thread of water and memories that runs through his hometown.
This sense – half-urban, half-mythic – is there in every note they make. Their sound is a study in contrasts: spectral hypnotic vocals drift over textural electronics, conjuring melancholy, noir mystique, and the restless beat of a heart in the grip of revelation.
Kumsa’s music is not so much sung as summoned; rituals for the sleepless, transmissions from the edge of the map. The sound drifts between shadow and shimmer – where elusive lyricism dissolves into brooding electronics and haunted melodies. Each track is made of mist, stone, water, century-old moss, and the flicker of distant city lights.
Kumsa offers an invitation: step into the current, let this river carry you somewhere strange and new. It will pull you under with violent grace and make you face what’s hidden, it will strip you bare, baptize you in your own shadow, and return you to the world. By the time you reach the far shore, you’re gasping, raw, unrecognizable – and finally, fully alive.
