Heiko Badje began making music in the late 1990's in Hamburg. After some period of realignment heavily influenced by then popular underground electronic music (house, techno, ambient) he began writing & recording again in the early 2000s as LA GRANDE ILLUSION. This time he produced solely on a computer using it as a new instrument. Combining the Disco / New Wave pop sounds of his youth with newer electronic zeitgeist, this culminated in idiosyncratic songwriting which was never shy of being pop-oriented.
After connecting with popambient producer Markus Guentner they realeased music under the moniker STAREAWAY.
Some songs that were of influence: 'M' - Pop muzik / The Buggles - Video killed the radio star / The Vapors - Turning japanese / Nick Straker Band - A walk in the park / The Beat - Tears of a clown / The Clash - Straight to hell / ELO - Confusion / Pink Floyd - Lucifer Sam / Brian Eno - Music for airports 1/1 / Can - I want more / Kraftwerk - Computer liebe / Witthüser & Westrupp - Illusion 1
