Labda Kesho means "Maybe Tomorrow" in Swahili. Since 2016, Labda Kesho has created and performed original "Kiswanglish Folk" music based on everyday life in Tanzania. Our debut album, "Bajaji Kisses", was recorded in Moshi, Tanzania at Kenny Mack Studios after a serendipitous encounter at a breakfast buffet on Sunday morning following a gig at the Iringa Sunset Hotel in early February 2020. This brief breakfast conversation resulted in an informal invitation to come up to Moshi for a few days at the end of the month to collaborate with other artists. Having never been in a professional studio, Labda Kesho's singer/songwriter Meesh embraced the Swahili philosophy of "anything is possible", and decided to go for it. Filling her old truck with a guitar, ukulele, melodica, accordion, a portable kitchen pantry, camp kit and remote office, and borrowing gas money from family and friends while waiting on consultancy paychecks, Meesh embarked on a solo two week cross-country 2000+ kilometer journey from Njombe to Moshi. With no idea where she was going to sleep and after being warmly welcomed by Kenny Mackyao and his family at their studio/home, Meesh pitched her tent on the roof of the studio with clear views of Kilimanjaro for the next three days. With the time leftover after collaborating with Bob Julie, Bongo Zozo, and Kipotabo, "Bajaji Kisses" was recorded in just one and a half days and is the result of saying YES to an opportunity, even when there is no guaranteed outcome.
