Fusing electronica soundscapes with jazz inspired improvisations, Lanes creates a musical atmosphere all his own transporting his listeners to expansive new worlds of sounds with his adventurous compositions. With a knack for memorable melodies and a deceptively precise ear for harmony, he creates compositions that push and pull against expectations, twisting and turning to follow the artist’s muse.
Now with Moonflower Code, he has released an album that captures everything he does best.
On opening track Laissez-faire, Lanes invites the audience into his world with a dynamic tune that starts with a whisper before blossoming into an all out banger. The ability to keep listeners on the edge of their seats by dramatically transforming a beat is one of Lanes’ hallmarks. As the ominous opening chords are joined by a propulsive back beat, it feels as if you have already been on an entire musical journey, and that is just track one.
Album highlight ‘Darlene’ performs a similar magic trick. Inspired by the character Darlene Alderson from the TV series Mr. Robot, the songs sweeping arpeggios evoke a feeling of emotional catharsis, with the mysterious aura of artificial intelligence haunting the computer-like melody. “I was on auto-pilot when I wrote this,” Lanes explains. “her emotion moved me all of a sudden.”
Lanes continues setting a mood that is both eerie and enlightening over the albums eight tracks.
