Larry Rice, a native to the Washington, DC area, was born in Washington, DC August 24th, 1953.
Larry’s love of entertaining has taken him to some unusual places. From playing rock and Motown for soldiers when he was 12, to playing fiddle on the street or playing violin as part of a singing telegram act, or rockin’ out for big crowds, sharing his love of music has filled his life.
As leader of the legendary Ohio country-rock act, Flatbush, Larry has shared the stage with the New Riders of the Purple Sage, Richie Metlock, Roy Buchanan, and Little Feat. Flatbush was a touring/recording act for 7 years in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Flatbush is in the History of Rock in Cleveland exhibit in the R&R HOF.
From 2007 to 2023, Larry played with his 2 daughters Lea Mae and Shannon in The Big Cheese Band, releasing 4 albums and a single, playing hundreds of shows in the DC area. “Life on the River” was #1 for two weeks on AAA radio in 2015. “Christmas Crocodile” was #17 on AC radio, also in 2015. “Everything” went to #15 in AAA radio’s Relix Jam Bands Chart in 2022.
Larry was a member of the Gideon’s Trumpet choir at The Falls Church Episcopal from 2018 to 2022 when he wrote 4 of the 5 gospel songs on Gospel Gifts.
Current projects include teaching fiddle, guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, and uke and playing harmony-based acoustic music with the love of his life in The Two Peas.
