Lasith Fernando

<a href="spotify:artist:2xh2NJ4TeqUAqtIQHubCTG" data-name="Lasith Fernando">Lasith Fernando</a> first arrived on the Sri Lankan music scene as a working musician turned singer-songwriter. With his 2017 release <a href="spotify:track:0bDKVJhqfYK7esFUtx9M19" data-name="Mathaka Mal">Mathaka Mal</a> Lasith introduced Sri Lankan audiences to his own distinctive blend of rock, pop-rock and blues inspired songwriting, and has since gained recognition as an artiste with a penchant for synthesising complex emotions and feelings into easy listening music. Growing up surrounded by the music of artistes such as <a href="spotify:artist:05p130jeDrgz3LDyRUG2fV" data-name="Clarence Wijewardene">Clarence Wijewardene</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0X9FnzK1yB8Jl5pc6YpQFK" data-name="Rookantha Goonatillake">Rookantha Goonatillake</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6ydHFgQbtjfJ41qxQFhXwe" data-name="Senaka Batagoda">Senaka Batagoda</a>, Lasith continues this tradition of iconic Sri Lankan singer-songwriters who write music that is both relatable and timeless.

Lasith Mithraka Fernando was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka on January 5, 1990. Although his family was not a musical one by any means, Lasith inherited his love and appreciation for music early on from his father and grandfather. “I still remember those moments from my childhood,” recalls Lasith, “when I would walk in on my grandfather humming old C.T Fernando tunes to himself on the front porch. Or the days I would sit listening to my father doting over his Clarence cassettes on the rare moments that he would get to spend at home relaxing. And I remember thinking in those moments how music was the most insanely magical thing ever - I still do.”

Lasith’s latest single “Kelle” is scheduled for release on 04 June, 2024.
