"The Cult of Grinning Martyrs" is the second full-length abomination recorded by the duo of Wrath and Dread during a disturbing year of 2020. Inspired by monstrous work "Conspiracy against human race" by great Thomas Ligotti as well as poetry of glorious Edgar Allan Poe and of course immortal Isidore Ducasse "The Cult of Grinning Martyrs" is a testimony of a puppet existence. Spreading apocalyptic miasmas and reflecting the dissonant zeitgeist this record is a new chapter in Lautreamont's mournful journey through the entrails of the world.
Lautreamont debuted in 2015 with the release of their "Insomnia" EP. The band spent the next few years redefining their sound which resulted into a whirlwind of low-end dissonance and crushing heaviness which characterises their recent Full Length album "Silence of the Deceased" (2018). Dissonant but straight forward, the rapid Black Metal style of "Insomnia" has evolved to a deep, obscure Avant-Garde Death/Black Metal nightmare. Down-tuned groovy riffs and complex rhythmic structures facing vortex blast-beats parts with chaotic growling vocals.
Many have described Lautreamont's style as Modern Extreme Metal with sinister psychedelic atmosphere combined with a decadent poetry — this is what they rightfully call “music of the blooming decadence.”
