What started as a fixation with the 2009 game DJ Hero and a somewhat large following on fantasydj.com (now defunct) in 2011 eventually developed into a serious joy of music production. Initial software restrictions forced Lavair to create his own sounds, and not use samples or loops as he was accustomed. This instilled an appreciation for sound design in him, which has manifested itself in all of his music since.
His 2018 debut, Luridity, was a fresh take on pop music, twisting it into various forms with maximalist sound design acting as the common thread linking every song together. That summer, Lavair began taking inspiration not only from wonky beatmakers such as Flying Lotus and Sd Laika, but also previous work under an old moniker. Repurposing older material was what allowed Limnics, his 2019 sophomore album, to form. Praised for being more streamlined than Luridity, it presented a strong aquatic and mysterious mood. His latest effort, Artificial Soul, was released early in 2021, and was a conscious attempt at creating more accessible music that could be thoroughly enjoyed by listeners who do not care about a cohesive album experience. To him, it is meant to be just a batch of decent songs.
Although Lavair has lived in Western Washington his entire life, he does not advocate for his association with any specific culture or movement. He is strongly influenced by artists from all over the world, and aims to use modern technology to create music that is timeless.
