When Oxford's legendary indie-pop band Holy Roman Empire split up, frontman Ste Fleming started writing and recording as Le Emu Tavern, eventually releasing the first album ...And I Was Sore Afraid in 2010.
Having moved back to Liverpool and in a time of austerity Le Emu Tavern was turned into a live band with the help of Seph Ong (guitar) and Ian Molyneux (drums) and a set of songs was built up what became A Country Supper with Le Emu Tavern in 2018.
Following the departure of Seph earlier that year, Le Emu Tavern was joined on guitar by Sanjoy Banerjee for a brief spell with some big shows including the Country Supper album launch and a special Truck Festival set partly made up of old Holy Roman Empire songs.
In 2019 'the lids' left the band and Cerys Gallagher joined as a full member having played violin on the previous album and sung at the HRE Truck show. Album number 3 is in production at a time when the far-right is on the rise, both on the streets and in electoral-politics. The Master Race Made a Big Mistake (When They Came to Our Town), Fireworks and Home: The Right to Seek Asylum give some taste of how that third album will roll.
