Leebone Phillips is the ambiguous alias of singer songwriter and bedroom artist Liam Eaton. Contemplative, honest and socially astute, Leebone’s writing lends itself perfectly to his DIY approach and total embrace of lo-fi limitation where nothing is as certain as authenticity.
After playing extensively in several different outfits over the years, mostly behind a drum kit, Phillips slowly began piecing together a ramshackle assortment of influences and experiences that became the road map to a destination of his own.
Tascam tape machines and mobile phone recordings meticulously melted into one another were the humble beginnings of a solo project. Phillips released a string of singles in 2018, referred to as Song for the Grey Cat under Electric Possum Records - an almost imaginary label he conceptualised with a close friend over a few afternoon beers that in turn became a shared collective for his peers’ projects to release music under.
After a couple of years spent collaborating and working on other projects he returns with his new EP Soul Coma Strut. A deep examination of position, purpose and the ever changing pursuit of success and acceptance in the 21st century, blurring the lines between social observation and autobiographic self awareness. Phillips holds true to his roots in lo-fi while stylistically and sonically progressing into a new trajectory.
