Undaunted, transgender indie rock pioneer Lenny Zenith defiantly explores new genres. Known primarily for his frenetic power pop, he reaches back to his New Orleans roots for jazz ballads, orchestral pop and occasionally EDM tracks. His latest single is about growing up transgender and how kids and families are coping with anti-trans laws in various states. All proceeds go towards fighting this harmful legislation.
The pioneering transgender writer and rock musician has been releasing music for years with bands like Jenifer Convertible, and Pop Combo. He’s worked with producers James Murphy (pre-LCD Soundsystem), and Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.). He’s opened for legends including U2, Iggy Pop, The Replacements and X, to name just a few.
This is a musician embracing all aspects of his dynamic life for an effort that is wholly, fearlessly Lenny Zenith.
Of course, the music also takes influence from the entirety of Zenith’s storied life.
“I think it’s important for trans kids, trans individuals, to know that there are other people out there who are not just being trans, but are also writing and performing and being visible,” he explains in his Billboard interview.
A portion of profits from all his sales will be donated to organizations like ACLU, The Trevor Project, TransLifeline and House of Tulip in New Orleans among others.
