Berlin has its Ensemble Les 12, Amsterdam Les 8, two ensembles of concert cellists who tour the world. Now Montreal has its own ensemble. Les 9, created by Vincent Bélanger in 2019, brings together 8 cellists and a double bassist, a union of young Canadian virtuosos.
Les 9 was created to explore the original, unique and universal musical universe embraced by the cello. Discoveries abound: the great classics revisited and/or adapted, playful music, Latin music, original compositions, including Adaptation, or "le mouvement perpétuel de l'être en devenir" by Christian Thomas, well known in Montreal theatrical circles for his numerous stage scores.
