Known for his breakout single “Overweighted ," Toronto based rapper Lil D combined hard hitting lyrics with an effortless flow to become one of the top names in the Toronto music scene.
Lil D (born D’Rae Rhooms), moved to Brampton when he was 8 years old where he built friendships with artists such as Houdini, Northsidebenji, Diizzy and much more . His start in music was no accident but seemed like it; during studio sessions with some of his neighbourhood friends in 2018, Lil D secretly began to record his own vocals. Lil D combined his effortless, hard hitting vocals with the sounds of Chicago and London drill, producing an explosive collection of street-driven anthems.After releasing “Overweighted”, Lil D released the follow-up single “Brothers”. Gaining a buzz in his city, he drops another banger with Dizzy and Jneat “Big Moves”. Releasing an audio single “Over and Over” months after and then a music video in August,2019 “Freestyle” where he effortlessly flows on the beat giving you punch line after punch line. Lil D had caught everyones attention and was on the path to success.
A month after dropping his music video Lil D was tragically gunned down in his hometown Brampton.
Not getting the chance to release his first album, his family has taking the honour in putting together a body of work by Lil D for his birthday. The album will has 21 songs, for his 21st birthday, on September 21, 2021 titled “D’RAE”. Lil D's name will forever live on!
