The Lil Fighters were a revolving group of musicians living in Brooklyn during the heyday of the 2000s music scene. The group released 2 albums, the vinyl-only Boys and Girls, and Freedom School, both recorded by Walter Martin at Marcata Studios.
The band's lineup for Boys and Girls was Milan McAlevey and Christine Edwards on guitar , Noah Sheldon on drums, Walter Martin on keys , Brooke Vermillion and Mat Fiveash alternating on bass, with guest vocals from Aaron Diskin.
For Freedom School the band welcomed Emily Manzo as keyboardist stepping in for Martin, and Jordon Heller on bass. Edwards transitioned to drums.
Walter Martin, a member of the Walkmen, is probably the best known member of the Lil Fighters, but all the players begat productive projects. An immediate offshoot was the space rock theme band the Sumerians with McAlevey on guitar, Aaron Diskin on keys, and Edwards continuing her stint on drums. Peter Kerlin joined them on bass.
Milan McAlevey went on to form Coke Weed. Aaron Diskin sings in the well-known klezmer group Golem. Christine Edwards and Emily Manzo would pair down and tour Europe as Christy & Emily, and release four albums on the Social Registry, Big Print, and Klangbad record labels respectively. The final Klangbad release included Peter Kerlin and Kristin Mueller on bass and drums. Edwards also had a pop punk outfit called the Totallys and is most presently active in the band Momsomnia.
