'lil ink brings hyperpop to the rap world on the kaleidoscopic spree of “with all due respect”. Even the title has a classic cadence to it. The arrangements here draw from unusual cultural milestones, with strong nods to drill, classical, dancehall, pop, and so much more. A clearly well-listened individual, lil ink makes sure that all these different reference points are filtered through their unique worldview.
Verses cascade downwards with a wry sense of humor, all the way to the construction of each verse that cuts to the bone. Really it is their insistence on taking the rudimentary structure of language and emphasizing parts different from what is typically normal in order to throw the listener off.
Of course, any hyperpop debt requires a little bit of homage paid to the good folks at 1000 gecs. The clever usage of hooks brought on into the fray further adds to this sense of endless discovery. For the plastic pop aspect elements of Sophie’s incredibly rich atmospheres take shape.
Nods to the true iconoclasts of the hip-hop world emerge, from MF Doom to the beat-smith attitude of J Dilla. However, this is truly lil ink’s show for they have a grace to their aural universe. [...] “with all due respect” is an album so good I literally turned the volume up as loudly as I could to truly appreciate the level of skill that lil ink displays in every possible way.' - Beach Sloth, 2022
